Forest City: An Oasis of Sustainability and Community

Nestled in the heart of Johor, Malaysia, lies a shining example of sustainable development and community engagement: Forest City. This innovative project, spearheaded by Country Garden Holdings, has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA) Global Modal of Green and Intelligent Construction.

Building a Better Future

Forest City has been a consistent winner at the SCAHSA awards, having earned recognition for six consecutive years. This year’s award recognizes Forest City’s commitment to green and intelligent construction, a testament to its focus on building a better future for the planet and its inhabitants.

With the theme of “Together for a shared safer and greener urban future: resilient, carbon-neutral, and nature-positive cities,” the SCAHSA awards recognize outstanding contributions to sustainable development practices and innovations. Forest City’s innovative strategies and technologies have set an example for cities, companies, organizations, and individuals around the world.

Partnering for Progress

Forest City’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement has attracted partners from around the globe. At the Global Forum on Human Settlements, the project was joined by 25 leading organizations as co-organizers and collaborators, including 10 major United Nations agencies. These partnerships have helped to promote replicable best practices and inspire others to take action in pursuit of sustainable development.

Living in Harmony with Nature

One of Forest City’s core beliefs is that the future of cities must be nature-positive. By integrating nature into urban environments, we can improve people’s health and well-being, tackle biodiversity loss, and build climate resilience. Forest City’s commitment to nature-positive urban design has helped to create a unique community that is in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Giving Back to the Community

In addition to its commitment to sustainability, Forest City is also deeply invested in giving back to the local community. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs, the project has provided support to underprivileged students, orphans, and residents in seven villages around Mukim Tanjung Kupang.

This commitment to community engagement was on full display during the holy month of Ramadan when Forest City organized an iftar ceremony with 203 students from Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Ulumuddin in Kangkar Tebrau. The event brought together students from welfare homes and care centers around Johor Bahru, providing them with a sense of community and belonging.

Building a Better Future, Together

Forest City is more than just a project; it is a vision for a better future. Through its commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and nature-positive urban design, Forest City is leading the way in creating a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient world. As we look to the future, we can all take inspiration from Forest City’s example and work together to build a better world for ourselves and future generations.
